Restrictions and Requirements

1. Passenger cars and/or Station wagons (Convertibles, Hearses, and Pickups excluded).

2. Drivers must wear helmet and jacket.

3. All trailer hitches and braces must be removed

4. Seat belt required.

5. A support bar behind driver’s seat is allowed as is a dash bar. Maximum 4" diameter round or square pipe. No galvanized pipe allowed. No other cross members to strengthen the frame. (optional)

6. Shoulder harness optional.

7. All glass must be removed.

8. Rear seats must be removed.

9. Doors may be chained or welded shut. (Limit to 6 inches of weld seam per door).

10. Hood, trunk lids and tailgates may be chained (3/8" chain max) wired (#9 wire), or bolted in 4 spots (1/2" x 6" bolt) for safety reasons. 3/4" rod allowed in the front in 2 spots and in the back 2 spots.

11. Removal of chrome strips and plastic mandatory.

12. No welding or modifying suspension systems. Must operate normally. (No air shocks.)

13. No welding on frame or reinforcement of any kind. (Except driver’s door. Limit reinforcement from 6 inches ahead and 6 inches behind door. Also allowed a brace behind driver’s seat between B-posts.)
14. Gas tank… Outboard boat tank or other safety approved tanks (steel only), anchored in rear seat area with chain or metal straps, and must be covered. Stock tank can be used but must be relocated and anchored in the rear seat and must be covered.

15. Five gallons of gas per car. Each individual responsible for own gas.

16. Batteries must be moved to passenger floorboard and it must be properly secured and covered.

17. Engine fan optional, NO extra transmission coolers.

18. Cars must have functional brakes.

19. Fire extinguisher optional.

20. Hoods and trunks must be in stock position and functional for inspection. Secured with no more than 2 chains or 2 bolts each. Bumpers must be chained to the frame.

21. Hood must have at least a 12" hole cut out in case of fire.

22. Tires no bigger than 15 inch, no split rims, no studded tires, tractor lugs, or implement tires. Valve stem protectors are okay. Any ply tire is okay. We do not want flat tires for safety reasons!

23. Car no higher than 18" from the bottom of the bumper to the ground.

Arena Rules

1. No sandbagging, if car is immobilized for more than one minute, car is eliminated.

2. No INTENTIONAL head-on collisions or hitting driver’s door.

3. Last 2 cars to move in each heat will qualify for Feature Event.

4. Top cars will be inspected after race and before payouts

"Herbie" Derby (for Compacts) RULES:

All rules from the full-size derby apply to the compact with these additional rules.
A.   To be in the compact derby, the car must be a manufactured stock four cylinder car. Call or email with questions.
B.   Most four cylinder car have the fuel pump in the gas tank. If the tank is located in the front of the rear axel, the tank does not have to be removed. It also is not allowed to have more than six gallons of gas in it. If an electric fuel pump is used, the driver must have a shut off switch within reach. If the fuel pump is not located in the tank or it is located behind the rear axle, the tank must be removed. A metal or plastic marine tank shall then be used. Tan must be strapped and bolted to the floor and not hold more than 6 gallons of gas.
C.   Compact cars can either be front or rear wheel drive.

All cars NOT REMOVED by 8:00 AM Monday, July 14th will become the property of the Greater Grand Forks Fair to dispose

of as they wish.
